Welcome to the home page of the MathCS Department. It is our mission to help all students discover the utility and beauty of mathematical and computational constructs, and in support of this we are dedicated to effective teaching and maintaining supportive relationships between faculty and students.
We believe that that math and computer science are accessible, interesting, and rewarding for majors and non-majors alike. If you have questions about majors or courses in the department or about our web page, or just want to stop and chat, please drop by or give us an e-mail.
A majority of classes are offered on a three year rotation, so it is important that majors realize when classes are offered. Refer to the Rotation of Math Courses or Rotation of CS Courses.
Scott Gerard ('78) notes that
...I'm working on a leading edge Java project [for IBM]. [While] I can't say that I use many of the things I learned at Wesleyan (although I seem to be the guy they ask all the '...weird math problems'), Wesleyan did teach me how to THINK clearly and how to learn new skills. Without those skills, I would not be where I am today.
